Strike: Knock down all 10 pins on your first roll to score 10 plus your next two rolls.

10th frame bonus: Get a strike or spare in the final frame and you earn extra roll(s) for bonus points.

A game usually takes around 10 minutes per person.Each lane holds up to 6 people. The number of lanes varies by venue, with 2 lanes at each location, except Plymouth which has 5.

However, we can accommodate up to 16 people on 2 lanes, but you will need to contact us to request this.

Duckpin bowling at Spinners does not use barriers, but the lanes are much shorter than standard bowling, so the ball reaches the pins quicker and is less likely to drift into the gutter.

Ten pin bowling is the classic version. Duckpin bowling uses smaller balls and pins on shorter lanes, and you get three rolls per frame instead of two. 

Bowling shoes are not required for duckpin bowling. The lanes sit raised above where you stand, so there is no run up needed. Please wear suitable footwear such as trainers. Heels and open toed shoes are not allowed.

  • Start position: Stand just behind the foul line with your shoulders facing down the lane. Keep it balanced and relaxed.

  • Grip: Hold the smaller ball comfortably in your fingers. Keep your grip light so the ball rolls clean.

  • Approach: Take a couple of smooth steps. Duckpin lanes are shorter, so you do not need a big run up.

  • Roll and release: Keep your arm straight, swing through, and release low near your ankle for a smooth roll.

  • Follow through: Finish with your hand pointing toward your target and your body facing the pins.

  • Aim: Pick a spot on the lane and repeat it. With duckpin, accuracy beats power every time.
